PRSD board of trustees take November board meeting to the community
For immediate release
October 27, 2015— On November 24, 2015, the board of trustees will hold their regular board meeting in the community of Manning, at Manning Elementary School.
“The board wants to engage and connect with our communities and by having the board meeting in the community, our hope is that it makes it more accessible and inviting for the public to attend.” says Board Chair Darren Kuester.
The meeting will begin at 10:00 am at Manning Elementary School and the board of trustees encourages the public to attend.
“Our goal is to provide our communities with opportunities to gain a better understanding of school board operation, school board governance and it also provides the space for the board and the public to connect and engage” says Kuester. “We hope that through this, it will increase the level of awareness and involvement in education and have a positive impact on student success.”
The regular board meeting structure will remain similar to PRSD regular board meetings with the exception of the addition of a question and answer period beginning at 11:30 am where attendees can ask general questions and engage with the board.
The meeting will begin with a review of the agenda, addressing action items which require decisions and motions to be made, an ‘in-camera’ session where the board discusses personnel and other legal or sensitive matters in private, policy development, a recap of committee meetings trustees attended, the highlighting of items in various senior management reports to the board, financial reports and the review of correspondence addressed to the board.
As always, should the public wish to address the board on a specific educational topic, they can apply to do so by contacting Corporate Secretary Denise Fortier at email@example.com prior to November 19, 2015. The public will be given ten minutes to make their presentation, followed by a five minute question period. This portion is traditionally called a “delegation” and is separate from the question and answer period outlined previously. Delegations will begin at 10:00 am.
“Whether you have or have had a student in the school system, are a community member, business member, staff, student or curious about the role of a school trustee, we hope that you can join us” says Kuester.
In the spring of 2015, the board of trustees decided and agreed to pilot hosting two meetings out in the community during the 2015-2016 school year. This is the first of the two meetings with the second meeting being held on March 1, 2016 in the community of Cleardale.
The agenda will be made available to the public on Friday, November 20, 2015 and will be posted on the divisional website at www.prsd.ab.ca on the “board of trustees” webpage.
